Sandblasting has been the preferred method of lettering and engraving memorials and headstones since the late 1920’s. When sandblasting, a special stencil is cut and applied to the surface of the stone to allow the pressurized air and abrasive mixture to engrave letters, numbers, flowers and images. And allows for the headstone to have a custom look.
Both light and dark colors of polished granite can be beautifully engraved by using the technique of sandblasting. The lighter colors of granite, including grays and pinks, are almost always sandblasted in order to provide a deep finished cut and the best visual look.
